Professional expectations

Professional expectations
$70.00 NZD

This module explores the role of the carer/ healthcare assistant and what the professional expectations are that may be required, such as acting as an Advocate.

When caring for a patient the care giver will often be the person who speaks up for them, whether it be something small such as asking for more food, or something more significant such as wanting a change in medication. They are advocating for their patient which means they are acknowledging that their patient has rights.

In some countries these rights are legislated such as The Code of Rights in New Zealand (which is explored) or these rights are informal and simply ‘understood’.

This module looks at:

  • The Code of Rights, using this as an example of patient’s rights.
  • Exploring the role of the advocate and encouraging self-advocacy.
  • Empowerment and disempowerment of the patient.
  • The Advocacy process.
