Level 5 Diploma in Dementia Care Starts This August

We are delighted to announce that the Diploma in Dementia Care (Work-Integrated or Practicum-based) (Level 5) has been added to our suite of Health Care and specifically Dementia Care training programmes.

The inaugural intake is scheduled for August 10th 2020 with places for just 15 students. Expressions of interest in the Work-integrated programme are being accepted now. To discuss further please email training@kalandra.ac.nz

Kalandra CE Dr Christine Clark says “The Diploma in Dementia Care acknowledges the complexity of working with Dementia clients, especially in a leadership role. This training has never been offered before in New Zealand and Kalandra is very proud to be the one doing so.”

The NZQA approved Diploma programme is delivered online, and is designed for Health Care Assistants working (or intending to work) in aged and dementia care who are seeking career advancement or professional growth. The programme modules include; Factors Influencing Dementia Care, Collaboration, Care Planning, Reflective Practice, Professional Development, Professional Competency, demonstrated using values and authentic leadership.

Graduates will be able to work independently, planning and revising dementia care strategies, and applying culturally appropriate, responsive care in a dementia care setting.

At successful completion students will be awarded The New Zealand Diploma in Health and Wellbeing (Applied Practice), Level 5.

As a training organisation we are invested in delivering the highest quality, internationally current training which benefits both the learner and the client receiving their specialised care. As with all our NZQA programmes the online delivery allows learners to upskill, manage their learning schedule and not impact their commitment to work.

Two pathways are provided to take account of learners’ employment circumstances:

  • The Work-Integrated Pathway is designed for domestic students and those on work visas employed in aged and dementia care.
  • The Practicum-Integrated Pathway is designed for international and domestic learners not currently employed in aged and dementia care but with relevant Health sector level 4 qualifications and a passion to enter dementia care.
