Introducing Lyn Basobas

Lyn Basobas

Lecturer
Certificate in Health Assistance (Aged Care) (Level 3)
Certificate in Palliative Support (Level 4) (Training Scheme)

Lyn completed her nursing training and registration in the Philippines where she worked in different areas of nursing including Medical Surgical and Paediatric wards, and Neonatal ICU. She also worked as a Clinical instructor providing direct supervision and instruction to nursing students in clinical areas. After coming to New Zealand in 2010, Lyn worked as a Caregiver, gained her NZ registration in 2011, and re directed her career to the Aged Care sector.

Teaching is Lyn’s primary focus but as caring for others also makes Lyn happy, she still works a weekly shift at a Care Home so she can be with the elderly clients she considers friends.
Teaching others is Lyn’s way of ensuring as many older people as possible receive the best of care from well- trained Carers who know how to do things correctly, with empathy and kindness.
Lyn feels “It is vital that Carers are aware their actions profoundly impact the life experience of the person being cared for, and that despite time pressures it is important to always keep this in mind.
Lyn teaches the Level 3 Certificate as well as the Palliative Support Level 4 training scheme and comments that “The last days of life are a journey. It is gratifying to know that we can provide better assistance to the patient and their family/whanau and improve their quality of life during this time. it provides such meaning to me – a sense of fulfilment.”

Lyn loves providing support to students, even technical support with their computers so they can keep going with the course. Seeing her students learn, gain their qualifications and the confidence to interview well and then start a career is really gratifying to Lyn and one of the reasons her students think so highly of her.
