Kalandra Awarded at the Festival of Learning

Kalandra wins two of the four Adult Learners Week Awards, given during the Festival of Learning in September - The Life-Long Learner Award and The Innovative Provider Award. We were also very pleased to have finalists in each of the other two awards - Lecturer Janene Whyte in The Exceptional Adult Educator and Kalandra student Teisa Vaikeli in The Outstanding Adult Learner Award.

The Festival of Learning, an annual interactive expo of adult education courses and workshops available in West Auckland, is designed to celebrate opportunities for life-long learning. The event showcases an extensive range of courses from work-place qualifications through to gardening and compost making, food, languages, crafts, and apprenticeship opportunities.

The Life-Long Learner Award

Mrs. Tusiga Nai graduated from Kalandra with the NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing Mental Health and Addiction Support (Dementia Care) (Level 4) in 2019. Throughout her life Mrs. Nai has been a teacher, a nurse, an elder in the church and now at 72 years of age, she is a new graduate after going back to study Dementia Care at Kalandra.

Mrs. Nai was both humbled and overwhelmed to be awarded The Life-Long Learner Award and we congratulate her on receiving this much deserved recognition of achievement. Now employed as a full time Health Carer, Mrs Nai is an inspiration to many and proof that you are never too old to learn.

The Innovative Provider Award

Kalandra Education Group was equally honoured to receive The Innovative Provider Award in recognition of establishing unique Health Care Training programmes focused on the older person and innovative ways of delivering the courses to adult learners enabling an upskilled Healthcare workforce.

Kalandra Chief Executive Christine Clark said “I am really pleased that Kalandra has received this recognition. Our purpose is to incorporate the holistic needs of the older person into our training and to provide courses that meet those requirements and provide a higher quality of care and life. As a training organisation we will continue to provide innovative, future-proof Health Care training that makes a real difference to our students and to those they care for.”
