Introduction to Healthcare Certificate

Duration: Approximately 40 hours 

Cost: NZ$80

The Kalandra Introduction to Healthcare Certificate provides learners with the basic knowledge and theory required to make them safe to work in the healthcare industry. Learners will be provided information regarding; infection control, the role of the Health Care Assistant / Support Worker, ethics and professionalism, along with the practical components of the role such as moving and handling clients, feeding and nutrition and pressure area care.

Programme Purpose:

The primary purpose of the Certificate in Introduction to Health Care is to meet the ongoing demand for staff to work both in a person’s home and also in aged care facilities. This certificate introduces the person to the role of a support person/assistant and the tasks that they must undertake, such as bathing and moving a person.  The student will gain an insight into some diseases that affect the older person, including dementia and will learn how to apply comfort to the person who is dying. The graduate is a stable member of staff who provides the majority of care to the patients.

Certificate in Care of the Older Person

The Kalandra Certificate in Care of the Older Person is a fundamental programme which trains Health Care Assistants / Support Workers in general aged health care issues, professional practices, skills, knowledge, and procedures. This programme provides information to enable the student to understand what is happening to the patient and become familiar with the terms used by medical professionals. Basic anatomy is taught as well as an overview of common diseases and illnesses.

This Certificate is for those who have completed the Certificate in Introduction to Healthcare or who have some knowledge and experience of nursing others. The programme offers more in-depth knowledge and skills taught are more advanced than those in the Introduction Certificate and the student is expected to be more involved in teamwork and have more responsibility. 

This training enables graduates to deliver the highest standard of care and support in a health and wellbeing organisation including homecare and other aged-care environments.

Certificate in Dementia Care  

For those with previous healthcare experience.

The Kalandra Certificate in Dementia Care is designed to train Health Care Assistants / Support Workers in Dementia care practices, skills, knowledge, and procedures. This training enables the Health Care Assistant / Support Worker to provide the highest standard of person-centred care and support for clients diagnosed with Dementia, and to facilitate an optimal quality of life and dignity.

 


Certificate in Palliative Care 

For those with previous healthcare experience. 

The Kalandra Certificate in Palliative Care is designed to train Health Care Assistants / Support Workers in Palliative support professional practices, skills, knowledge, and procedures.  This training enables Health Care Assistants / Support Workers to provide the highest standard of person-centred care and support for clients diagnosed with a life-limiting condition, and to facilitate an optimal quality of life and dignity during the process of dying and eventually death. 

 


Introduction to Beauty and Touch Therapy Certificate

Course Length: 8 hours

Cost: NZ$20

The Kalandra Introduction to Beauty and Touch Therapy Certificate is an introductory course designed at providing a basic understanding of the internal and external effects of aging on the skin. Participants will gain a basic understanding of aging skin and suitable products and techniques that can be used in caring for the skin. Video demonstrations will include information on common conditions and contradictions of therapies and treatments as well as touch techniques for care of the face, hands and feet.
